Can Trying to Conceive Take a Toll on Your Relationship?

When a couple decides to start trying for a baby, it usually starts off with weeks of exciting bedroom “sessions” because hey, having LOTS of sex equals a baby right away, doesn’t it? In actuality, the average chance to conceive for a normally fertile, healthy, young couple having regular, unprotected sex is approximately 20% each month. 20%! So while you think becoming pregnant may happen instantly, it can actually take a while. In fact, according to a recent Harris Poll conducted on behalf of Proxeed plus, among new fathers surveyed, 3 in 10 (30%) say the length of time to conceive took longer than expected.1

Most people think that the big scary I-word (that’s right, “infertility”) only applies to couples who have been trying for years, or if one or both partners have a unique or uncommon medical condition that affects their ability to have children. WRONG! Infertility actually occurs when a couple is unable to conceive after only one year of unprotected sex.† It’s a more common problem than people like to talk about, and it can naturally begin to take a toll on your relationship as months (or years) pass by without conceiving.

It’s not unusual for someone to feel like they’re letting down their partner every time the pregnancy test comes up negative. Following months of TTC (trying to conceive) with no results is often when one partner begins to wonder if something is wrong with their reproductive health.

Of course, age and overall health are factors for most human beings TTC but what’s less known is that about 50% of infertility2 can be attributed to the male factor alone .† That’s why it’s so important for BOTH partners to be seen by a doctor BEFORE TTC. This will allow an opportunity to evaluate both parties and identify any potential or existing problems (if there are any), and make corrections and suggestions that may improve your chances for conception – right from the start.

Baby making can be a fun time that brings you and your partner closer — no matter what struggles come your way. The more you understand, the more you can support each other along the way with making healthy lifestyle choices, such as exercise, proper nutrition, and taking a prenatal vitamin for her and Proxeed Plus† male fertility supplement. Data are weighted where necessary by age, race/ethnicity, region, education, income, and propensity to be online to bring them in line with their actual proportions in the population.

Men – Don’t take a backset when preparing for a healthy conception!

Do you think you know your role when it comes to making a baby and that prepping for a pregnancy is for the lady in your life? Wrong! Unfortunately, you’re not alone in that thinking, since 38% of new dads who responded to a Proxeed plus survey[1] left it up to their partner to prepare for a healthy conception. Don’t leave it only up to her — make some changes that will help you prepare for a healthy conception too! p4p-screen

If you’re asking why, then think about this: Guys are up to 50% responsible in couples trying to conceive, and although men are typically able to reproduce at literally any age, sperm quality begins to decline at the age of 25. That’s right – 25!

If you’re planning on having a baby, it’s important you play an active role in achieving a healthy conception too. Take the initiative and make sure you’re in prime baby-making shape!  Regardless of your age, it generally takes sperm an average of 74 days to mature and up to an additional 20 days to become capable of fertilization.

Before you get busy, click here for some easy-to-achieve yet important and helpful tips to help support sperm health. Then talk with your doctor (yes, that means making an appointment for a physical) about Proxeed plus, a clinically researched prenatal male fertility supplement that blends essential male fertility vitamins and nutrients like zinc, carnitines, Vitamin B12, selenium and more, to help support sperm health for three to six months prior to trying to conceive.

Prepping for Pregnancy: Advice to Support Male Fertility

Guys, listen up! Male fertility isn’t about size, and it’s not to be taken for granted. After all, many men spend more time thinking about how NOT to get someone pregnant, than prepping for a wanted pregnancy. Let’s face it, when discussing pre-pregnancy plans, most of the attention falls to the woman and what she should be doing to prepare her body for the whole miraculous process. However, guys need to be preparing just as much as their partner before the fun part starts! Hey, it’s 50-50 when it comes to making a baby.

First off, there are several easy lifestyle changes you need to make to help support male fertility, particularly sperm health, as you prep for pregnancy. Sperm formation takes over two months, so during that time, what a man eats, how he exercises and what environmental factors he’s exposed to, can all affect the little guys. So read on for some easy-to-achieve, natural fertility tips that you can incorporate into your daily routine to support sperm health and fertility when prepping for pregnancy:

  •  Maintain a “fertility diet”, but we’re not talking oysters and strawberries here (though these can be fun!). What this means is eating a balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, healthy oils and protein. Pay particular attention to foods that and are rich in zinc, selenium, vitamins E and C, and folic acid as these support fertility.

  •  Support sperm health by taking a male fertility supplement, such as Proxeed Plus, a prenatal blend with essential male fertility vitamins and nutrients, such as zinc, ceramides, vitamin B12, selenium and more. Proxeed Plus is specially formulated to help support sperm health when taken as directed for three to six months prior to trying to conceive.

  • Exercise! We already know that exercise is good for us in so many ways, but it’s also good for fertility. Not only will it make you look irresistible to your significant other, but research shows that 20-30 minutes 3 times a week, of cardio exercise may, reduce stress and lower your weight which impact male fertility when you’re trying to conceive.

  • Give up the vices you’ve been promising her you will! No more excuses. If not for yourself, do it for the sake of your family. Limit your intake of alcohol, and unnecessary pharmaceuticals, give up smoking if you haven’t already, and limit your caffeine and fatty foods – all easy steps to support fertility.

  • Stay cool! Sperm are produced in the testes so turning up the heat with frequent trips to the Jacuzzi, hot tub or sauna can all inhibit sperm health. Along these lines, experts also say switching to boxers from briefs will keep the boys cool.

  • Be conscious of your environment to limit male fertility problems. Outside factors like pesticides, chemical fertilizers, lead, nickel, even the chemicals in everyday products you use, are believed by some to hinder proper sperm development. When in doubt, check the ingredient labels and ask your healthcare provider if something on it seems suspicious.

  • Get the conversation going – especially with your personal physician. Let him or her know that you would like to prep for pregnancy and discuss your medical history, current health conditions and/or medications you are taking. Consider filling out a detailed medical checklist prior to your visit to get the conversation going. And guys – be open and honest with your physician – they aren’t there to pass judgment.

Guys, Listen Up: Your Biological Clock Ticks, too!

If you think that women are the only ones with a ticking biological clock, think again! You’re on the clock too, because after the age of 25, sperm quality begins to decline. So while you still may feel young and carefree, your “boys” may run into some trouble reaching the finish line – egg penetration – sooner than you think.

So take note, male fertility problems do not only happen to those who are “over the hill,” and the ideal male fertility age isn’t infinite. In fact, you may think that since you’re young at heart and ready for action that your boys will follow suit. We’re here to put this notion into perspective:

There are on average more than 200 million sperm released with each ejaculation; however:

  • Only 15 to 45 million (or 7.5% – 22.5%) are healthy enough to fertilize an egg
  • A mere 400 (.00019%) of those will survive after ejaculation
  • And only 40 (.0000099%) will reach the vicinity of the egg
  • While just 1 will not only find its way and succeed at fertilizing the egg

So how do you stop the ticking of the clock? Fact is you can’t. Let’s face it, the Fountain of Youth is nowhere to be found.  While you can’t reverse the effects of time on your fertility, making positive changes to your diet and lifestyle and talking with your healthcare provider about taking Proxeed Plus, a prenatal male fertility supplement made with a complete carnitine-based formula that targets multiple sperm functions±— is definitely worth a shot.

Tick-Tock, guys….let’s get moving!
